How we are Missrepresented

As we have recently watched Missrepresentation, I have had more and more thoughts circulating around my mind about how women's rights are in so many ways stripped away from they due to insanely stupid reasons that are mainly a result of the way women are portrayed in the media. With the result of the way women are portrayed, it is effecting how women and girls are treated in society and along with that it is also taking a great toll on the mental health of girls and women as well. To see how this is what the girls are growing up seeing as an example of what they need to be or how they are being treated is so sad to know that this is what the media society is showing.

The effects of media in terms of how women are treated or seen as is effecting women in many different departments. One major one being politics, as seen the show had given numbers of how there has been only 44 female governors in the US eve compared to over 2,000 male governors, which I see is very devastating to see as a young women. Also to a certain degree it is kind of discouraging to see how many females to males are elected as governors and knowing its mostly seen due to the fact of how women are treated and seen compared to men is seen as something that's due to a strong bias. This shows that women will have a lower chance to men of being elected, but though there is women's rights acts and empowerment, there is still so many people that think that they would rather chose a man to be in power than women and I think that needs to change because it is just not right and not fair. I think women have already shown in many ways that they are capable and ready to lead. But I really think that this applies to presidency as well, I really though that in 2016 we would finally have the first female president of the united states, slightly because I though the majority of US citizen are smart enough to make the right decision to not elect Trump (but low and behold here we are) but mostly because I though well why cant we have a female president? Aren't we more than capable enough to do so? well unfortunately not enough that to public decided that a businessman who has had some of his businesses including a casino go bankrupt, like I question what the public is thinking sometimes.

There are so many other very devastating factoring results of how women are portrayed in society and how they are treated, one of the biggest is how it is effecting the mental health of girls ad women of the society right now and I really don't wan to touch on the effects because even if I did I wouldn't be ale to even remotely come close to describing how bad it is right now. But something else that its effecting is the struggle women go through to become more empowered and in everything be treated equally and though we are getting there it still is a far ways to go. Though the thing that really stood out to me in the documentary was how men and boys are effected, the media is showing how men need to be more powerful and controlling, this puts pressure on guys to be more manly but it can also lead to physical abuse and other things that just lead on to other problems in society. So the media is misrepresenting women and men in my eyes cause the society to be the way it is today.

  1. I completely agree with your analysis. Because there are so little women in roles of power and influence, little girls paying attention to media and the news will start to believe it isn't a domain for women, and that men are the most qualified. This, combined with further misrepresentation in TV shows and movies, makes young girls and women believe they have very few roles in life, and makes them believe the men are more capable. Men are also impacted by this limited portrayal of women, because they are raised believing women are actually like the girls portrayed on TV. This is all very harmful to society.
