Me reflecting on how the media ruined my life

Image
With my experience in the media as a consumer, all I can say is that it has only negatively impacted my life and I honestly wish it didn't exist. Its something that has had a negative effect on the whole society. although it is great entertainment, it is also one of the reasons mental health is effecting more people in the society. But for me all I can say is that its effect on me isn't the most positive thing, and as I spend so much time on social media all I can say is that the negative affects are just growing in different ways. As of right now, I can gladly say that the effect it has on me isn't as bad as it was in middle school and freshman year as I have learned to just not care as much. That doesn't mean I don't experience negative effects from social media, but just not as much. My thoughts on the media, is that it really is some of the worst things on the planet you know other than plastic, it contributed to an increase of mental illnesses and the con

UC Stigmas

Image
As the end of the year approaches, and seniors are leaving, my friends and I had a discussion about the stigmas and pressure of attending a UC. We had talked about how there is so much pressure of going to a UC especially considering the fact that we live in California, and for those that are, in the HISP program. We discussed the society's viewpoints on students going to a UC compared to a community or state college, which we didn't think that there was any problem going to a city or state college but apparently a lot of people care. Many people, mainly those that we know are so focused on going to a UC or some extremely good college (but again, as we live in California and are in special programs such as HISP, PACE, etc.) because that is what's implemented in our heads. The people with the best grades get into the best college and get the best jobs in society. But all of the friends that was discussing this with me had al agreed that this stigma around going to a UC

Not grumpy now

Image
On May 14,2019 we have lost one of the internets most popular and cutest memes, Grumpy Cat. Grumpy Cat was known for being a meme with his grumpy face (duh) but she was also known as one of the internets most famous cats. He is a cat that is more successful than I will probably ever be as he has met numerous celebrities and has a net worth of over a million dollars to 100 million dollars. This past two weeks has been extremely sad as though this was just a cat, she was a "public figure" and it was just sad to see her go. we always hear news if a celebrity has died from natural causes, an accident, or suicide (not saying that lightly) and its all very sad and has a great impact on the audience or users of the media in mostly negative way. I think that Grumpy cat may have been looked over when she passed as "oh its just a pet" or "It's just a cat" but I don't think that it should be as looked over as it probably was. mostly in my case as I liter

How we are Missrepresented

Image
As we have recently watched Missrepresentation, I have had more and more thoughts circulating around my mind about how women's rights are in so many ways stripped away from they due to insanely stupid reasons that are mainly a result of the way women are portrayed in the media. With the result of the way women are portrayed, it is effecting how women and girls are treated in society and along with that it is also taking a great toll on the mental health of girls and women as well. To see how this is what the girls are growing up seeing as an example of what they need to be or how they are being treated is so sad to know that this is what the media society is showing. The effects of media in terms of how women are treated or seen as is effecting women in many different departments. One major one being politics, as seen the show had given numbers of how there has been only 44 female governors in the US eve compared to over 2,000 male governors, which I see is very devastating to

How Merchants of cool showed me how much advertising sucks

Image
In the past week our class has watched Merchants of Cool and this film really showed me and made me think of how the advertising business in our society is shaping the trends and minds of those around us and mainly the upcoming generations. The businesses that are creating these advertisements are targeting the youth generation as we are more carless with our money and they use tactics that are working towards their sale goals, but it is taking a very high toll on our generations mental health.  Although I don't recall the film to really address the mental health issue that some of these advertisements are causing (I could be wrong and they have brought it up, but from my memory I don't think they did) it is a continuously rising issue that's occurring as a result of how some of these companies are advertising these certain products, of course not all of them but there are numerous that are.  What many companies are doing is they are using celebrities to endorse or a

Another Sister Scandal?

Image
One you Youtube's biggest scandals and news of the week that caught almost everyone's attention, was the controversy going on between James Charles and Tati Westbrooke. Originally when I first heard that there was a major controversy between them, I didn't care enough to look into it, but as it progressed I ended up deciding to watch the videos and what happened really surprised me. But how and why this gets so much attention really make me worry, not for these Youtubers, I couldn't careless about them, but the viewers and how it will affect them. For some brief backup on the scandal would be that James and Tati have been close friends since James' start despite an 18 year age gap. But when James posted an ad partnership with a companies who he has shown negative feelings toward before and who is also a lead competitor of his good friend Tati's brand, a news outbreak sparked as Tati for one was very upset about it and decided to take it to social media t

Metal straws are taking over the internet

Image
All the outrage recently has been about straws, more specifically metal straws and how they will help the environment and save the turtles. As we have already known that the plastic that we use and make kills our environment and the animals in the ocean, but recently people have tried to make more of an effort to try and minimize the plastic we use. One of the biggest difference that has been made was the 10 cents added to bye plastic or paper bags at the grocery store which encouraged people to bring their own reusable bags. But now many people are starting to use metal straws instead to plastic straws and there are also many companies and business that have gotten rid of their use of plastic straws or have given alternative including the use of paper straws or like Startbucks, the provide lids such as nitro lids that have a small hole at the top that people cant sip out of instead. Many places are also selling metal straws as well so people can just reuse them. Now to me the us
